  About CENTRAL VERMONT PUBLIC SERVICE (CV)

Central Vermont Public Service Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, operates as an electric utility company in Vermont, the United States. The company engages in the purchase, production, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Its wholly owned plants include 20 hydroelectric generating facilities with an aggregate nameplate capacity of 45.3 megawatts (MW); 2 oil-fired gas turbines with a combined nameplate capacity of 26.5 MW; and 1 diesel peaking unit with a nameplate capacity of 2.4 MW, as well as interests in nuclear facilities. The company also owns, buys, sells, and leases real and personal property, and interests therein related to the utility business; and sells and rents electric water heaters in Vermont and New Hampshire. In addition, it holds joint ownership interests in electric generating and transmission facilities. As of December 31, 2010, the company's electric transmission and distribution systems consisted of approximately 616 miles of overhead transmission lines, 8,486 miles of overhead distribution lines, and 478 miles of underground distribution lines; and it served approximately 160,000 retail customers in 163 cities and towns in Vermont. The company was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in Rutland, Vermont.
