Short News Description: Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner has signaled his intention to White House officials that he is considering resigning his post. Mr. Geithner wouldn't leave the administration until after a deal on the debt ceiling is reached, according to the report. He has not made any decision as of yet, and will not do so until the debt ceiling issue has been resolved. Geithner, 49, has told associates that he needs a break from public service, after dealing with near continual crisis over the last 3 years since the collapse of Baer Stearns, first as the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and then as Obama's treasury secretary. Family considerations also play a role, according to the unnamed sources, as his son has decided to finish his final year of high school in New York.
