Exchange Indexes

NYSE - The NYSE Composite Index reflects the U.S. equity market on an even broader basis. The more than 3,000 common stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Inc. (NYSE) represent some 46 separate industry classifications.

NASDAQ - As the world's largest electronic stock market, NASDAQ is not limited to one central trading location.

AMEX - The alliance of technology and people is a hallmark of auction market trading, and the AMEX has been a pioneer in market innovation for nearly a century.

Stock Market Indexes

DOW Indexes

DJI - The Dow Jones averages are unique in that they are price weighted rather than market capitalization weighted.

DJT - The first Dow Jones stock index, assembled in 1884 by Charles H. Dow, co-founder of Dow Jones & Company, was composed of nine railroads, including the New York Central and Union Pacific, and two non-rails, Pacific Mail Steamship and Western Union.

DJU - The Dow Jones Utility Average is the youngest of the three Dow Jones Averages, having made its debut in January 1929.

DJA - The Dow composite index is a basket of stocks from the DJI (Dow Jones Industrials), DJT (Dow Jones Transportation) and DJU (Dow Jones Utilities).

NASDAQ Indexes

NASDAQ 100 - Launched in January 1985, the NASDAQ-100 Index represents the largest non-financial domestic and international issues listed on The NASDAQ Stock Market based on market capitalization. The NASDAQ-100 Index is calculated under a modified capitalization-weighted methodology.

NASDAQ Biotechnology - The NASDAQ Biotechnology Index (^NBI) is calculated under a modified capitalization-weighted methodology and consists of public companies traded on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange which are classified according to the Industry Classification Benchmark as either Biotechnology or Pharmaceuticals.

Russell Indexes

Russell 1000 - The Russell 1000 Index measures the performance of the 1,000 largest companies in the Russell 3000 Index, which represents approximately 92 percent of the total market capitalization of the Russell 3000 Index.

Russell 2000 - The professional money management industry has demonstrated support for the Russell 2000 Index as one of the benchmarks for large cap U.S. stocks.

Russell 3000 - The Russell 3000 Index represents the price of the top tier of the domestic equity market, or companies with market values greater than $300 million, which usually comprise approximately 90 percent of the market.

S&P Indexes

S&P 100 - The Standard & Poor's 100 Stock Index, measures large company U.S. stock market performance.

S&P 400 - Portfolio Characteristics of the S&P Mid Cap 400 Index The S&P Mid Cap 400 Index consists of 400 domestic stocks chosen for market size, liquidity, and industry group representation.

S&P 500 - The S&P 500 Index is calculated using a base-weighted aggregate methodology. That means the level of the Index reflects the total market value of all 500 component stocks relative to a particular base period.

S&P 600 - Introduced in 1994, S&P 600 is fast becoming the preferred small cap index in the U.S. Measuring a segment of the market that is typically renowned for poor trading liquidity and financial instability.

Sector Indexes

Amex Gold - The AMEX Gold BUGS Index was introduces on March 15, 1996 and trading began at a level of 200 index points. BUGS is an acronym that stands for "Basket of Unhedged Gold Stocks".

Amex Oil - The Amex Oil Index (XOI) represent a sector of corporations involved in various phases of the oil industry - exploration, production, and development of petroleum.

Semiconductor - The Index had an initial value of 200. The SOX is a price-weighted index, which means that companies with higher stock prices have a greater influence on the Index.
